African Wood Owl in Uganda?
This bird can be found in forest all over Uganda, except the Northern area.

NFA bird Podcast I am Johnnie Kamugisha. The bird for today is African Wood Owl.
This
is a medium-sized Owl with dark eyes but no ear tufts.
It
about 35 cm long and about 350 grams.
It
is mainly a forest and woodland dweller but may be found in plantations and
degraded forests too.
It
feeds on insects but small mammals, rodents and others birds among others.
It
lays 1 - 3 eggs with an incubation of a month.
This
is one of the bird that I can guarantee you, if I took you to some of the
habitats in Uganda for example Kibale, I just call it and in sprit of a second, it will be right there for you to
see.
There are people all over the world
who think that when an owl calls near your house, it is a bird omen, but I as a
bird watcher think this bird has brought information to you, just like night jar, believed to bring information to people that it’s time for sowing millet.
And other people
believe that birds bring information which is the same thing with these owls.
You can find them in forest like Budongo, Kibale,
Echuya among others forest.
The bird for today is African Wood Owl and am Johnnie Kamugisha.
