NFA bird Podcast I am Johnnie Kamugisha. The bird for today is a Crowned Hornbill.
This is a
medium-sized hornbill with a bright red bill that presents a stocky casque on
the upper mandible and a long tail with white outer tail feathers.
It is about 50 cm
long, and it is characterised by its white belly and black back and
wings.
It has yellow eyes
that other hornbills don't show.
It forages mainly
in trees where it feeds on insects that it often catches in flight.
It also feeds on
small rodents and reptiles, seeds and fruits.
It lays about 5
eggs that are incubated for about a month.
They can be found
in Mabira forest, Kibale forest among others.
