They are one of the beautiful birds in Africa.

They are usually found in pairs.
Although the numbers have been decreasing in numbers,
we could observe them not only wetland, but also agricultural fields
and sometimes groups are even on the branches of the trees.

The bird for today is the Grey Crowned Crane.

This is a national bird of Uganda that can be found in Savannah but preferring to nest in wet lands or call it Swamps.

It lays 2-5 eggs though you most of the time see parents with 1 or 2 chicks.
Their nest is built using grass in tall wetland vegetation with an incubation that lasts a month.

It is about a meter tall, weighing about 3.5 kgs with a wind span of 2 meters.
They feed on grass seeds and other grains, insects, worms, frogs among others.
They are rapidly reducing in numbers due to habitat destruction by farmers, trade from the wild to captivity, pesticide/poisoning and being big birds, they are prone to collision as they fly, they hit wires electric wires or telephone wires.
Although their habitat is becoming less and less, you can still find them in wetlands.

In 1890, They looked at this bird and it looked much more beautiful than the rest of the birds and it was decided to be the national symbol of Uganda. And, it was the first one to be put on the court of arms of Uganda.

Not like the other birds, females of this species are slightly smaller than the males, even though it is not easy to see.

The bird for today is the Grey Crowned Crane and am Johnnie Kamugisha.
