Crested Guineafowl




Crested Guineafowl has 5 subspecies..
We would be able to tell when we look at their faces and necks.
Some birds has red skin on their neck
 It enable us to identify the bird.



Those dots have beautiful colors
Both male and female have the same colors.

Where can I find Crested Guineafowl
 in Uganda?

They are a widespread resident of sub-Saharan Africa. Not only the above forest reserves, they can be found in forests around Uganda.

This is forest species unlike the Helmeted which is a savannah bird. (Guttera Verreauxi) is the race found in Uganda which has a red bare skin only on the throat and plain neck feathers unlike the nominate race which has a red bare skin around the eye.

It is 50cm with a blackish with dense white spots plumage.
Its distinctive crest on top of its head vary depending on subspecies. There are 5 accepted   subspecies.
It is a monogamous species with strong and long-lasting pair bonds.
They also practice courtship feeding by running a few meters.
