NFA bird Podcast: I am Johnnie Kamugisha.
The bird for today is Green Wood-hoopoe.

This metallic green and diamond shaped bird is a forest dweller but can be found in woodlands and suburban gardens.
They are found in groups of 10+ birds with only one breeding pair.
The breeding female lays up to 4 eggs in a natural tree hole or an old Barbet nest and the incubation is about 18 days.
After hatching, the rest of the group feed her and the nestlings even after they have left the nest.

The Green Wood-hoopoe is an insect eating bird. They will be seen feeding on tree trunks though they mainly feed on the ground, termite mound.
Its specialized claws enable it to easily cling to the underside of branches while closely inspecting the bark for insects.
It is 37cm long and the way you heard them calling, it was not one bird, but several birds. When one starts, since they are moving flocks of 10 plus, when one starts calling, the rest are joining and it becomes a nice song.
They can be found almost all over the Uganda
The bird for today is a Green Wood-hoopoe and am Johnnie Kamugisha.
