#13 Yellow-Rumped Tinkerbird

NFA bird Podcast: I am Johnnie Kamugisha. The bird for today is a Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird.
Yellow-Rumped Tinkerbird is a plump looking bird of 10cm long has a black head with two white stripes above the eye, two short bright yellow wing bars, a white throat and yellow wing feather edges with an yellow rump. That's why it gets name.

They are widespread and common in forests, dense woodlands, thickets, gardens and even urban areas.
This species has a large range and has a stable population trend.
They forage mainly for fruits in the upper canopy.
They some times supplement fruits with insects like ants, crickets among others.
They lay 2 to 4 eggs that are incubated by both sexes for about half a month.
They usually nest in holes bored into dead trees and like I said earlier, nesting duties are shared by both parents.

If I wanted it to show you what it means because they are very territorial birds I will be walking with you and I just escote before you and I just start,

(Johnnie imitate the bird call)

And in a speed of a second, you will see it shooting over you, or we what bird watchers call "bomb diving you."

They can found in most forest like Budongo, Kibale, Bwindi, Echuya among others.

One time, I was walking with a fried of mine and I heard it call and I asked him whether I should call the bird to come and bomb diving you.
He couldn't believe me. So i started, (Johnnie imitate the bird call).
Actually, it was much faster than me, You should have see him running when the bird start bomb diving him.

The bird for today is a Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird and am Johnnie Kamugisha.
